More Summer Firsts

In the last 2 weeks there have been a few more firsts for Grace. Our family has season tickets to the Rivercats, the local minor league baseball team. So, we thought it was about time Grace made an appearance. She loved it and definitely kept the fans around us entertained as well. She also went to the beach for the first time. We hiked out to the beach along the Tennessee Valley Trail in Marin and ended up at the beach. When I went to nursing school in Marin I used to hike that trail often and was excited to take Grace. I dipped her toes in the ocean and she loved it!

Fourth of July!

We had a wonderful 4th of July! It started with a parade in the morning (the hopping kids walked in the parade with Rebecca and the dogs), bbq lunch, swimming and homemade icecream at mom and dad's in the afternoon and another yummy bbq and fireworks at The Hopping's in the evening. Grace was such a trooper, only one little melt down at dinner time (which was also her bed time by the way), but other than that a perfect angel all day! I will have to post a photo shoot of all her darling outfits I had for her first big holiday! She loved the fireworks, just stared in amazement and couldn't keep her eyes off them. She fell asleep within minuted of them being over. Just like her mommy she didn't want to fall asleep and miss anything.

This was a very special day as it was Jack's first Fathers Day. He is such an amazing Daddy and I can't believe how much he has changed since she was born. He was once scared to hold a newborn and now he is such a natural with Grace.

When I asked Jack what he wanted to do for Father's Day I was not surprised at his response. . . fishing! We spent the day on Lake Berryesa. It was a perfect day. The weather was great, Grace was perfect and Jack caught the biggest kokanee he has ever caught so of course that just made his day. We ended the day with a BBQ at my parents house.

Ok, so this is a little late, but my little angel turned three months on June 16.

Grace, you are now 3 months old and changing everyday. You love to chew on your hands and can spend an incredible amount of time just staring at them. You have an infectious giggle and I love the way you stare into my eyes and talk so seriously. You are an amazing sleeper at night, and are almost sleepign through the night without eating. However, we need to work on the naps. We love having you in our lives and you are definitely your father's daughter as you love being on the boat and outside. You would lie outside under the big tree all day if I would let you. We love you more and more everyday!

Baby Bonding Week

Jack was able to stay home 2 weeks ago for baby bonding. It was so nice to have him home with us all day. Grace has changed so much since the first few weeks of life when he was home. She laughs, smiles and always wants someone to play with. So, Daddy did a lot of dancing, singing, and he is great at dangling toys for our little one to grab. We went fishing and took Grace for her first hike at Codfish Falls near Applegate, it was a wonderful week, I wish he could be home with us all the time!

Memorial Day

Ok, so I have had a hard time keeping up with the blog these days as little Grace requires so much time. On Memorial Day we went fishing at Lake Oroville and had my parents over for fresh BBQ fish. It was a nice and relaxing day. Here is a photo of Grace on the boat with Daddy. This was her second trip out on the boat and she just loves it!

13 lbs, 7 ounces and 24 inches long

Grace had her 2 month doctor appointment on May 17. She was such a good girl, even when she got her shots. She slept most of the day and the next few, it was evident she didn't feel too good from the shots, but she was a trooper!

The past 2 months have been filled with changes everyday. Its hard to even imagine our life without her. During this past month she has started sleeping so much better and is so alert and loves playing with her hands, her swing, her mobile and her friends the bugs. She smiles, gurgles, coos a giggles; this just melts my heart.

My First Mothers Day

My friend Tiffini graduated from UWM with her Masters in Public Health so we went to Rohnert Park in Sonoma County to help her celebrate! The BBQ on sat was a lot of fun and it was fun seeing great friends. We all met at SSU, it was fun to be back in our old college town. Saturday night was Grace's first time in a hotel and she slept great! We were amazed that she woke only one and fell right back to sleep, she slept from 9pm to 8:30am, we had to wake her up!

Sunday morning I was woken with a beautiful silver locket and frame with 2 photos of our beautiful baby Grace. We then went to brunch at Latitudes and Grace was perfect. We were going to drive out to the coast, but the weather was too rainy and windy so we decided to go walk around the SSU campus instead. There have been a lot of changes since I was last there and I had forgotten how beautiful that campus is. Who knows, maybe Grace will go there one day. We took the scenic route home through Napa and Lake Berryesa to Davis and then home. It was a wonderful and relaxing weekend with some of my best friends and wonderful hubby and daughter.

We celebrated Grace's first Easter. We went to church with the family and then over to The Hopping's for a yummy lunch, egg hunt and baskets. Grace was spoiled by all her wonderful relatives. Unfortunately with cold and rainy, but other than that it was wonderful day!

Grace is 3 weeks and we seem to be settling into life as a family of 3 pretty well. She sleeps so well at night, we are lucky and she is pretty happy most of the time with the exception of the hiccups, she hates them.

The Baptism

This past sunday Grace was baptized with Jennifer and Ryan as the godparents. It was a beautiful service and she was perfect of course. She wore the same dress I wore when I was baptized and used the blanket my Aunt Melody made for me for my baptism, such a special day. After the service we had the family join us at Jennifer and Ryan's house for lunch.

The last two weeks have just flown by! Grace is such a good baby. She only fusses when she is hungry or needs to be changed and is a wonderful little sleeper; mommy and daddy are grateful for that and are enjoying it while it lasts. Her favorite "toy" is staring at the lights on the ceiling in the family room. She has become to alert and it amazes me how she stops crying when she hears my voice. She had her 2 week appointment yesterday and is back up to her birth weight plus a few ounces at 10 lbs 11 oz. We are so blessed to have a such a healthy and happy baby girl!

The Walk

On monday 3/15 I was definitely done being pregnant, I was scheduled for my nonstress test the next day and an appointment to discuss induction and I really didn't want to be induced. So, when Jack got home from work and the gym we decided to try walking AGAIN! As we walked down the street we passed our neighbor who looked at me and said "Do you really think you should be walking in your condition" (he is an older man, and always referred to my pregnancy as a 'condition'). Jack and I both snickered and said I was fine. Well, about 20 minutes later we were walking, I was waddling back past their house after my water broke on our walk!

My water broke about 5pm and contractions started right away. We were at the hospital about 6:30pm and I was dilated to 3 and ready to meet our little one. After a fairly smooth labor Grace Melody entered the world at 12:20pm on tuesday 3/16 at a healthy 10 lbs 5 oz! We were a little surprised at her size as the doctors kept telling me that I was having an average sized baby and not to worry that s/he would be big. I felt like I was carrying so much baby and was so uncomfortable the last 2 weeks, I thought for sure this baby had to be big. It was the most amazing moment of my life when she emerged and was laid on my chest. Jack and I were amazed at how much we loved her right away!

I am 40 weeks today. Baby Naves has decided not to arrive just yet, but any day I am sure. We are all doing well. The baby continues to be active and had a HR in the 140s today at our appointment. We have an appointment next week at 41 weeks for a nonstress test and ultrasound to make sure our little one is still doing well. Until then we are going out for dinner, sleeping in and enjoying our last days as just Jack and Gina.

38 weeks and counting!

We are almost there, there is a light at the end of the pregnancy tunnel. I have been feeling pretty good, but everyday is different. Some days I have a ton of energy and others not so much. Some days I feel a little nauseated with little appetite and others I feel fine with and can eat anything. This is all just the joys of late pregnancy I guess. At my 38 week appointment I was dilated to 1 cm, baby's heart rate was 141 and I measured 36 cm, my BP and HR remain great and no swelling which I am very grateful for. . .so basically baby and I are both doing very well. Everyone keeps telling us to enjoy this time and make the most of it as just the two of us, but we are just so excited to meet this baby, its getting hard to wait. Maybe the next post will be include a photo of Baby Naves!

38 weeks

Valentine's Day

Well, going out of town wasn't an option this year, so we stayed home, went out for a yummy lunch and had some Sherri's Berries for dessert. And then my wonderful hubby took us out on the lake for sunset, it was beautiful, romantic and the perfect evening!

Maternity Leave!

Almost 37 weeks

Yeah! I am officially in maternity leave and loving it. . . can you say nesting?!?! I have cleaned and organized the nursery more than once. I am walking and shopping daily and anything to get this baby out, I am ready!

We had our preparing for birth class on saturday, it was a long day being almost 37 weeks pregnant, but a great class. Jack is going to be a wonderful coach. He feels better about the birth and I think now I am may be a bit more scared. The baby continues to be very active rolling around and kicking. He or she has been in the head down position since about 34 weeks that we know of and feels like s/he has dropped a bit. So, hopefully sooner rather than later. . . but I know, a first time mom is usually late but I am praying for early!

Two of my dear friends from college, Tiffini and Stephani hosted an amazing baby shower for me on saturday. It was at Paul Martin's Bistro in Roseville. The room was filled with friends and laughter, it was the perfect day. Oh, lets not forget the yummy cupcakes from Darci, they were absolutely amazing! I was amazed at how generous everyone was, it was such a fun day!

33 Weeks and Crib Building

Since it has been so stormy this past week we took advantage of the time and have been busy transforming the second bedroom from an office into the nursery! Since my nesting instincts are kicking in this was definitely my idea of a great time! Jack on the other hand, well he is being a good husband. It didn't hurt that it was too stormy to go fishing. The crib is assembled and the changing table is in the room, still a desk and shelf need to come out, so its not completely done, but very close!

I have been feeling pretty good, my car is finally fixed from the accident (2 new bumpers) and my back pain is finally subsiding a bit, but I still have to be very careful. If I do too much I definitely pay for it the next day. The baby is moving a lot still and morphing my belly into all sorts of crazy shapes. As excited as I am to meet him or her, I think I am going to miss some things about having this belly. I will upload pictures of the nursery when it is not such a mess, but here are a few of the construction phase.

33 weeks

I am 31 weeks and feeling great! Starting to get more hungry, and tying my shoes is becoming a bit of a challenge, but I can't complain. My BFF Shannon and I are both pregnant, she is due 3/1 and I 3/9. She had her first shower this past weekend. It was a lot of fun to compare bellies and see a lot of great friends from high school that I haven't seen in years. We have started workign on the nursery, it is in transition from office to nursery, so I will post pics when that is complete.

Christmas

We had a wonderful and busy Christmas. We went to dinner on Christmas Eve with my parents and intended on coming back here to our house open gifts, but as usual nothing ever goes as planned. There wasn't enough time for gifts before church. . .oh darn, I guess we would have to go to my parents house for Christmas brunch after all. Christmas day was spent traveling from house to house visiting family. After brunch we stopped by my sister's and that was when it really felt like Christmas. We were greeted in the driveway by 3 children in jammies all screaming with joy about the wonderful gifts they got from Santa. And then it was off to the Naves' for more gifts and dinner. Leah was definitely more interested in the wrapping and boxes, but still added some extra joy to the day.

We hope you all had a wonderful Holiday and we can't wait for next year to have our little one here for all the joy!

Week 29

The third trimester is ok so far. I am just starting to get a little less energy, but not too bad. It could be due to lack of sleep. The pregnancy insomnia continues, but I look at it as training for when the baby arrives. I was given my kick count card at my appointment on monday and laughed because we have 2 hours to get 10 movements and often that only takes about 2 minutes! That is going to be one full card. The baby is measuring right on target, and all my numbers including labs are great! So, this holiday season we feel blessed for what has been and hopefully will continue to be a healthy pregnancy and before too long a healthy baby!

We had Christmas with my mom's side of the family last night. Lots of food, laughs and gifts. I of course was not good about taking pictures, but did have Jack take one of the weekly "belly pics" I am always asking for when we got home.

Weeks 26-28

26-27 weeks
Well, the last few weeks we have been busy preparing for the holidays with shopping and baking and visiting friends and family. We saw all our nieces and nephew in their church christmas programs and have had a few holiday get togethers. Unfortunately we missed a few too as I was in rear ended about a week and a half ago and spent a few days resting. Everyone is fine, I am just taking a few weeks off to rest my back, or should I say my Dr is insisting I take a few weeks off to rest my back so I am all healed for the arrival of baby naves.
The baby is very active these days and my new favorite when s/he gets the hiccups! Sometimes they can be felt by others, but usually just me and I must admit I kind of like that.

Thanksgiving

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this year. We visited with the Naves the weekend before and spent Thanksgiving with The Drennons and the Hoppings at the Hopping house. We were treated to a wonderfully delicious dinner.

In addition it was my first week at Kaiser Roseville, all went well, its nice to come home on my lunch break! Its crazy that Thanksgiving has already come and gone and before we know it, it will be Christmas

So, here I am 24 weeks, 6 months! The last few months have just flown by. I am feeling great, love having the bump and the increased energy. Not a whole lot more to say about this past week. The following post says most of it. I had my last day at Kaiser Morse ED yesterday, I am transferring to Roseville for less of a commute and less hours for after Baby Naves arrives. Our crib has arrived, I will have to post pics of that too when we finally get it put together. So, here are the 24 week pics taken during out Babymoon.

So, before starting my new position in the ER at Kaiser Roseville and the holidays we decided to take a long weekend and travel down the California coast from Monterey to Mussel Shoals (about 20 min south of Santa Barbara). The weather was perfect, it was relaxing, beautiful and fun to be just the two of us with no schedule. The pictures are a bit out of order, they are actually backwards, but at least I have the post up!

I am definitely growing! Here is my 23 week picture. Baby Naves is kicking like crazy these days. Jack has yet to feel it, every time the baby starts kicking he is not around, the kicks don't last long, or most likely he is busy playing his guitar and singing to us. This is our favorite time, the baby just kicks away as Daddy rocks out, the louder the music the more excited the baby. This is definitely our most favorite family time right now. I am feeling great and love being pregnant, the glorious second trimester!

This past weekend I met my good friend from college, Tiffini, in Seattle for a girl's weekend away. There won't be many more of these for a while. We ate, drank (well she did at least) and shopped our way through rainy Seattle and loved every minute of it! It is an amazing city and I would love to go back and spend more time exploring the sites.

So, we had our 20 week ultrasound today! Everything looked great, or so it seems. The radiologist will read the scan and I have an appointment next week and will get the final ok from my doctor. For all you wondering, or thinking I may change my mind. . . .I didn't we still don't know the sex, it will be a wonderful surprise when we do.
I am feeling great these days, I think I have finally gotten the hang of pregnancy. I am showing and having a firm bump actually makes finding clothes a lot easier! I will keep updating this blog. . . next to come, more belly pics!

My best friend since the age of 3, Shannon, and I are due 1 week apart. This is the first time we have seen each other in the last 3 or 4 months. Not a lot of activity during this time. Work, and home was about it. I napped nearly everyday in my car during my lunch break at work and spent all my waking hours nauseated and vomiting. . . but it will all be worth it!

We did go to the Museum of Sciences in San Francisco and go fishing a few times.

On July 6th, at the encouragement of a few coworkers I took a pregnancy test on my lunch break at work and to my surprise. . .it was positive! We are having a baby!

Now how would I tell Jack. I promptly jetted out of the ER to Subway (well, it was lunch and my last cold sandwich of pregnancy) and then to Target where I found a really cute baby t-shirt with a guitar on it. . .perfect! When I got home he was dressed and ready for the gym. It took a little convincing, but he finally sat down and opened and the gift and his response as he held it to his chest was "I think its a baby shirt". Me "it is", Jack "oh", Me "We are pregnant!" He was so excited! After a little celebrating we went to the gym.

I just told Jack the great news. . . we are going to be mommy and daddy!

A few weekends back Jack and I spent the weekend in Tahoe with some friends. Lots of food, laughter and beer made for a great weekend! Jack was definitely excited to take the boat up to the lake for the first time. We had some difficulties with one of the breaks on the trailer seizing up. This left us stranded at a gas station for over an hour. It definitely reminded me of the broken down station wagon on family road trips as a child. Friday night was filled with food, games and of course beer. Saturday morning after breakfast the guys headed out on the boat to catch our dinner (we had groceries just in case) and the the girls and I went shopping and had drinks over looking the lake. When the guys finally gave up Jack dropped them off and picked up us girls for our "booze cruise". Of course we had a great time and within minutes I had caught the biggest fish of the weekend and the only of the day! Saturday night was spent bbg'ing, playing some games of course and even a little gambling and small winnings at the Biltmore. We concluded our weekend with a beautiful little hike up Eagle Rock and then lunch with friends on the river before heading home. It was a great weekend filled with lots of food, beer and laughter!

Ok, so I still have a broken camera (I feel a little like Cheryl with all my camera issues). So, no pictures for this post, just a little update.

We are getting more settled into married life and all the joys of shared finances, one bathroom, and household chores. So, we miss each other getting ready for work in the morning so the one bathroom is ok and the fact that Jack only requires half of a drawer helps a lot too! He is super particular about our finances, tracks everything! Paige, I feel your pain. But, its been good for me, its amazing how much you save when you every little purchases is tracked. And as for the household chores, I hired Merry Maids. The extent of our house cleaning is tidying up for the maids, its perfect!

So, all in all we are doing great.

I have been working a lot and enjoying reconnecting with my social life since wedding planning no longer preoccupies the majority of my time and Jack is continuing to add little things to his fishing boat and trying it out on weekends.

We are doing great and I will hopefully have more frequent posts and some recent pictures soon!

Mendocino

Ok, we are back up and running a bit. We went to Mendocino with Andrea, Aaron and their kids for a quick weekend getaway in mid july. It was wonderful to get away from all the heat smoke here in the valley and smell the fresh ocean air. We explored in the rocks and tidepools and found some interesting little creatures. We had a great time!

So, Paige will be happy, here is our first blog!

Jack and I were married on June 22, 2008. It was an amazing weekend and such a wonderful day! It was everything I could have ever imagined and more, so thank you to everyone who made it possible.

Ok, enough mushy stuff. . . we honeymooned in Cancun at an amazing all-inclusive resort. I must say thats the way to go, as much room service and drinks as you want! We explored a sink hole,zip lining, mayan ruins and went scuba diving.

And now for the updates of "real" married. . . Since we didn't live together before we were married there have been lots of changes! We are currently unpacking boxes and wedding gifts, while I continue to purge to make room for my husband. Its definitely a chore, but worth it. Here are a few wedding and honeymoon photos.
